"Documents" and "Drive" Google will receive electronic signature support
According to the reports published by Google developers on their blog, and data from other competent sources, closed testing of electronic signature support, which the company has been conducting for about a year, is moving to the next stage.

Now the opportunity to try the new feature while working in the Workspace application will be provided to a limited number of ordinary users of the service - however, so far only in beta testing mode and for a period of 2 weeks. To get into the number of favorites, you must apply through your administrator by contacting the support service.

Of course, the introduction of this feature cannot be called a serious innovation or a qualitative leap forward. Electronic signature is widely used, for example, by Dropbox file hosting or Adobe Acrobat, so in this case, Google is more likely to “run as hard as it can” to stay on par with competitors, rather than break into a dominant position.

However, the emergence of an electronic signature, of course, will be actively supported by users who no longer have to print every document that needs a resolution or then switch between applications. Users will be able to put a signature or request it with tracking the status of the request directly in a text editor or cloud service.

As the developers promise, the signature will receive a special field in the virtual document, where it will be displayed. The signing date will also be indicated, which can be set manually each time or switched to automatic filling.

If the feature implementation is successful, the next steps are:

  • Extension of the electronic signature to PDF documents;
  • The ability to send signed papers by mail services outside of Gmail;
  • Adding an option allowing to put signatures at the same time to several users.

When exactly we should wait for the test results and the promised transformations, at the moment it is not reported.
