Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro - new design and new features

On October 19, the long-awaited Pixel Fall Launch event took place, where Google presented its new products - Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The new design of smartphones was announced long before the official presentation and it really does not look like any existing smartphone. In addition, the novelties got a new chip of Google's own production called Tensor.

Now a little bit about the design. The company has taken good care of the appearance of its "child", smartphones no longer look like the usual monochrome bricks, there is an individuality and uniqueness. The back cover is divided into two parts by a single black stripe with cameras, where the upper part is brighter and the lower - dim. Each model received a different color scheme. The Pixel 6 will be available in 3 color palettes: Sorta Seafoam, Kinda Coral and Stormy Black. Pixel 6 Pro: Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny and Stormy Black.

Both smartphones have OLED panels, the Pixel 6 is 6.4 inches with 1080p resolution, while the Pixel 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch screen with 1440p resolution. The Pixel 6 Pro's display has curved edges and is made with LTPO technology, which provides a variable refresh rate from 10 to 120Hz. The Pixel 6's screen refresh rate is 90 Hz. The smartphones are protected against moisture and dust according to IP68 standard and have in addition an under-screen fingerprint scanner.

And now let's move on to the most interesting part, the processor. The novelties were honored to "wear" the proprietary processor from Google called Tensor. The main advantage of the new chip is the high performance when working with AI algorithms due to the suit Tensor Processing Unit. These capabilities are primarily aimed at working with speech recognition and camera operations. The Tensor processor consists of 8 cores: 2 high-performance, 2 mid-level and 4 energy-efficient. But that's not all, the new chip has a special dedicated cryptographic co-processor for security, a photo processor and others.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, the new smartphones will be able to create photos and videos in the best quality. The AI is capable of removing unnecessary things from photos, Motion Mode will blur moving objects in the background, and a special function Real Tone will ensure the natural rendering of any skin tone. Pixel 6 got the main sensor of Samsung ISOCELL GN1 camera with 50 megapixel resolution and 1.2 micron pixel size, the second sensor got 12 megapixel resolution with 1.25 micron pixel size and ultra wide-angle optics. Pixel 6 Pro has 2 similar photo sensors, as well as a 3rd telephoto sensor with a resolution of 48 megapixels and 4x optical zoom. The front camera in the smartphones is located in the center of the screen in a small hole. In the younger version, the camera got 8 megapixels with a viewing angle of 84 degrees, in the older version - 11.1 megapixels with a viewing angle of 94 degrees.

The Pixel 6 has a battery capacity of 4,614 mAh and the Pixel 6 Pro has 5,004 mAh. The smartphones support fast charging up to 30W, have 3 microphones, stereo speakers, and support noise cancellation and 5th generation mobile networks. The Pixel 6 got 8GB of LPDDR5-format RAM and 128/256GB of UFS 3.1 format ROM to choose from, the older version got 12GB of RAM and 128/256/512GB of ROM to choose from in a similar format.

The new Pixel 6 models will be available for pre-order as early as Oct. 19, and sales will start as early as Oct. 28. Google has priced the Pixel 6 at $599 and the Pixel 6 Pro at $899.
