Antutu users' preferences for Android devices

2020 is finally over and it's time to take stock. So the team of one of the popular Antutu benchmarks decided to summarize their preferences in the parameters of Android devices and published an interesting article with a rating on their official website. It should be borne in mind that the rating was formed only according to the preferences of all Antutu users. All data was collected for the last, fourth quarter of 2020.

One of the important parameters in choosing a smartphone is its screen, because not everyone likes huge smartphones with a diagonal of 7 inches. The most popular smartphone size is 6.5 inches, the market share for the 4th quarter is 16.7% and is still growing. The second place was taken by the 6.7-inch diagonal, which managed to gain 6.8% in the quarter and get 13.9%. The 6.4-inch diagonal is in 3rd place with a 13.8% market share, it has slightly decreased, but it still managed to get into the 3rd place. In 4th place was the 6.6-inch diagonal, its indicators, on the contrary, decreased by 4.8% (the highest decrease among all diagonals) and as a result, it received 12.9% of the market share.Distribution of Mobile Screen Size Q4 2020 graph

Smartphone screen resolution also plays an important role, because thanks to it we can fully enjoy the "depth of video or image". If we evaluate the entire set of smartphones, then most users prefer Full HD+ resolution, because this indicator is the main one for a large number of budget and even top-end smartphones. Resolution 1080x2340 pixels takes an honorable 1st place with a market share of 29.3%, followed by 1080x2400 resolution with a share of 26.2%.Distribution of Mobile Screen Resolutions Q4 2020 graph

The most interesting criterion in the parameters of a smartphone is a single-chip system. The undisputed leader of all processors is Qualcomm and their Snapdragon chips. The market share of Qualcomm chips is 58.5% and is growing 1% every quarter. Snapdragon SoC smartphone users love it for its excellent performance, so the 1st place is well deserved. Chips from MediaTek took the 2nd place with a market share of 14.9%, it should be noted that their share is growing by 2.5% over the quarter. The 3rd and 4th places are occupied by chips from Samsung and Hisilicon - 13% and 12.3%, respectively.Distribution of Mobile Processor Brand Q4 2020 graph

As for the preferences in the number of cores, in this category, almost the entire market is given to 8 cores, which is 96.3%. Unfortunately, 8-core devices cannot yet take the full 100%, because smartphones with fewer cores are still on the market. But, it is worth noting that at the moment the market is overflowing with a wide variety of budget smartphones, this gives hope for a complete capture of the market by 8-core devices.Distribution of Mobile Processor Cores Q4 2020 graph

The most preferred amount of RAM in the device. 1st place is given to devices with 6 GB of RAM, their market share is 35%. The second place was taken by devices with 4 GB of RAM and a share of 24.1%. 3rd place for devices with 8 GB of RAM and 22.6% share. This rating is quite expected, because more budget smartphones have just begun to receive 8GB of RAM, previously it was the privilege of only top-end smartphones.Distribution of Mobile RAM Size Q4 2020 graph

The amount of "own memory" (ROM) is also a very important parameter; by the end of 2020, developers began to give preference to 128 GB of memory as a mandatory minimum amount, therefore, the growth of devices with 256 GB of memory is quite natural. For the 4th quarter of 2020, the rating was topped by devices with 128 GB of memory and their share is 45.5%. The second place is still for devices with 64 GB of memory and their share of 29.8%, it should be borne in mind that now all devices with 64 GB and 32 GB are rapidly losing their%. The third place was taken by devices with a storage capacity of 256 GB and their market share is 12%.Distribution of Mobile ROM Size Q4 2020 graph

Now the most interesting thing, it remains to find out only the market share of devices with the version of Android. So, the first place was deservedly received by Android 10 and as much as 78% of the market, this is not at all surprising, because now the developers are focusing only on the newest versions of Android and install it even on very budget smartphones. Android 9 took 2nd place with 11.5% of the market share. Android 11 took third place with a market share of 4.4%, although this figure is still small, but by the end of 2021 we will see a completely different "picture".Distribution of Android Versions Q4 2020 graph
